DESTRUCTION | A concert experience in collaboration with SoundMind,
exploring the loss of nature, spirit, and humanity featuring works by
George, Honstein, and the world premiere of ANIMAL, by Nathan de Cusatis,
commissioned by Balance Campaign. Program will include visual reflections
on the current socio-political environment.
Each of these works speaks to the personal experience of living through
destruction - of the Earth, of a relationship, and the destruction of our
own humanity. Honstein's Juno reflects on the devastation of global warming
though the winter of 2015 with its crushing storms, while George's A
Stiffening Wound... uses Ted Hughes' poem "Red" written about his wife,
Sylvia Plath's life and ultimate suicide after their divorce. De Cusatis'
ANIMAL depicts the evolution of an imaginary creature to a grotesque
humanoid that ultimately enters a "final furious march that leads to its
own extinction."
